REGGAE CUTIE COMMENTS
I recently watched the new documentary on the life, music, and character of the Honorable Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley (Berhane Selassie).
I was shocked to discover that Marley’s life could have been spared had he simply had regular check ups after the discovery of his melanoma cancer. From what I learned in the movie, the rasta community which Bob surrounded himself with did not rely on western or “white” doctors/medicine. How sad, as if God/Jah did not create Doctors!
I’ve met many Rasta’s who claim that CIA, or a german (nazi) doctor, or the mysterious “illuminati” (i hate that) were responsible for the death of the great musician. But after having watched the new documentary, it seems possible that Bob’s Rasta bredren and the unique Jamaican flavor of Black-Power associated with the Rasta Movement created an unnecessary distanced between Mr. Marley and modern health care system. So it is quite possible that Bob simply died thru the agency of ignorance (u know… ni99a shit).
I am posting this for those who want to know more about Rastafari’s (HIM Haile Selassie I) views on medicine. Of course, there is so much more to learn on the subject. But what happened to Bob, seems to be a perfect example of the backwardness that H.I.M. Haile Sellasie was trying to reform in Ethiopia and in the greater African Community via the OAU (Organization for African Unity).
